The Nigerian Golden Eaglets are scheduled to arrive the Nation Capital, Abuja today, 11th of November, 2015 after their record breaking triumph at the just concluded FIFA Under 17 World Cup in Chile.
They are expected to be received by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Furthermore, the 1985 Golden Eaglets who won the maiden edition of the FIFA Under 17 World Cup in China have been assured that his administration will fulfill all promises made to them 30 years ago. The then Golden Eaglets were promised houses and scholarships at their reception held in Dodan Barracks by General Muhammadu Buhari who was the military head of States in 1985.
This was revealed in a statement made available by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba. The Statement cited the President as saying:
“It is a pity that those promises were never fulfilled. It is unfortunate that our players, who did us proud on the world stage, went unrewarded for their efforts, despite a presidential directive to the state administrators that they should be honoured in their home states,”
“I apologise for whatever embarrassment and disillusionment in your country these raised and then dashed hopes may have caused you. My government will do all within its power to remedy the situation,”
