On the 2nd Of June, 2015, Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) President, Joseph Sepp Blatter voluntary resigned his post as the president of the world renowned body. See the excerpt of his speech provided here:
"I have been reflecting deeply about my presidency and about the 40 years in which my life has been inextricably bound to Fifa and the great sport of football. I cherish Fifa more than anything and I want to do only what is best for Fifa and for football.
I felt compelled to stand for re-election, as I believed that this was the best thing for the organisation. That election is over but Fifa’s challenges are not. Fifa needs a profound overhaul.
While I have a mandate from the membership of Fifa, I do not feel that I have a mandate from the entire world of football – the fans, the players, the clubs, the people who live, breathe and love football as much as we all do at Fifa.
Therefore, I have decided to lay down my mandate at an extraordinary elective Congress. I will continue to exercise my functions as Fifa President until that election."
However, his glorious step down was denied when the FIFA ethic committee banned him for 90 days in the wake of another extraordinary development in the FIFA corruption scandal.

Banking on the report from the Nigerian Monitor, Sepp Blatter has openly declared his support for former Abia State Governor, Dr Orji Uzo Kalu as his favoured candidate while speaking from a Swiss radio in Zurich. In his words
” The position of the FIFA president is too important to be left to just anybody. I have heard of some candidates who want to take over from me. But I find the businessman from Nigeria Kalu very qualified and interesting because he is not only a businessman, but a politician with lots of contacts and corporate experience.
“He can bring his great experience to bear in the running of world football. He is passionate about the game. I remember how he sponsored one of Nigeria’s clubs to win the CAF championship twice. He is a man that can take world football to the next level.”“If Africa hopes to win the support of other federations, then they must cue behind the Nigerian business man. Football has developed beyond just any body taking over. I sacked Jerome Champagne in 2010 so how can he come back to lead an association he tried to destroy. You need a man who can command respect and win friends for football. With Kalu Africa stands a better chance,”
