After the gubernatorial election held nationwide in April 2015, the All Progressive Congress (APC) on behalf of their gubernatorial candidate in person of Mr Peterside Dakuku filed a petition contesting the outcome of the election citing issues bothering on the credibility of the election. This solely emanated from their claim that the election was marred with gross misconducts, massive rigging, violation of human rights,massive inflation of the actual,authentic total numbers of voters against those accredited and deliberate disruption of election activities at APC's stronghold.
The hearing of the substantive issues by the Justice Muazu Abdulkadir Pindiga led Rivers State Governorship Election tribunal commenced July 23rd in Abuja after issues bothering on Jurisdiction and other motions were dealt with. Since, many events have played out but finally, the tribunal concluded their hearing after all stakeholders adopted their final written address.
It is pointworthy to note that Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, chairman of the Rivers State governorship election tribunal, was removed and replaced by Justice Mohammed AMbrosa after investigators from the Department of State Security (DSS) discovered that the judge had accepted a bribe of N200 million from Governor Nyesom Wike, the major defendant in an electoral case before the tribunal. Tension mounts as the final verdict of the Justice Mohammed Ambrosa led Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal will be made today. There are mixed feelings in both camp as PDP believed the petition will be dismissed for lack of merit while APC believed that INEC declaration of Nyesom Wike as the winner of the April 11 Governorship Election will be overturned as a result of the evidences provided against his legitimacy.
